How do I apply for SSDI?

Applying for Social Security Disability can be a bit of a challenging task and the more prepared you are with your medical information, the easier the process will be.

An individual can apply for Social Security Disability Benefits online through the SSA.gov website. The website is pretty user friendly and once you get started, you will be walked through each page and question with prompts etc. However, prior to starting your application, it will be beneficial for you to put together a list of your current medical providers, past medical providers that saw you for your medical problems, any hospital's you have treated at for your disability and a current list of any medications that you are taking.

Once you have the above information, you will be able to move through the online application quickly. Additionally, it will be in your best interest ot start going to your treating medical providers and requesting your medical records for you to send to the Social Security Disability Examiner once your case has been filed. Once you file your application online, the Social Security Disability Claims Examiner will start to request your medical records, however the process will take a long time and you can help speed up the review of your claim by gathering your medical records ahead of time.

I practice in the area of Social Security Disability Law and in addition to representing clients at the appeal stages of their cases, I also help about most of my clients through the initial filing of at the application stage.
